Every day Keone Kalawe is surrounded by our Hawaiian history. He can feel it guiding him. Kalawe has a background in both Archaeology and Architecture. For the past year and a half, he, along with cultural specialist Mahealani Pai and Hawaiian rockwall expert Billy Fields, have been focused on restoring the cultural sites in and around Keauhou and Kahaluu. Keone is also getting his son involved. Kalawe Junior has much respect for the skills his father has. "The way my dad works, he has a vision of what he wants, and he draws it out on paper, and completes his restoration work accordingly." The younger Kalawe knows that the work he does along with his father is important not only for them, but for generations to come. "If we all work to repair this heiau, future generations and visitors alike will know of our past." A little later we'll hear about this father and son team's truly Hawaiian past time. |
