Duckworth graduated from McKinley High School, and was injured in Iraq when a rocket propelled grenade hit her unit's Black Hawk helicopter. She lost both legs. But after a year of recovery, she ran for an Illinois seat in Congress. Duckworth lost by just a few thousand votes, and now serves as Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.              |
