Coach Sentenced for Raping 13-Year-Old Player

A former high school coach will spend the next year and a half in prison for sexually assaulting one of his students.

Darin Yoshinaka, 28, of Makiki agreed to a deal with prosecutors, admitting to nine counts of 2nd and 3rd degree sex assault.

Yoshinaka was an assistant coach at Maryknoll. His victim was a 13-year-old girl on the team.

He could have faced up to 20 years in prison had he not accepted the prosecution's deal.

The prosecution made the deal to ensure a conviction and also to spare the victim from having to testify in court.
