Gustav weakened slightly as it ran over Cuba but it still remains a dangerous category four hurricane. The outer rain bands are now affecting south Florida, they could even see a few isolated tornadoes over there but the storm is heading towards Louisiana. It's forecast to become a little stronger before it makes landfall. At last check winds were running 135 to 161 m.p.h., the expected path takes it into Louisiana sometime around Monday afternoon. The storm surge could hit 23 feet above normal plus rainfall could top 20 inches so coastal flooding is almost a guarantee. We'll see if the levees hold this time but it's not looking good. Hopefully the lessons learned from Katrina will minimize the disaster that's about to happen. |
