The parade of champions got underway in Waikiki Monday. Thousands were there to honor athletes past and present who have represented hawaii in national and international competition.
KGMB9's Brooks Baehr was there live. The parade started at the other end of Waikiki and hasn't reached us yet. There are however, lots of people here waiting for the champions to arrive.
People began showing up hours ago to stake their claim along the parade route. some are here to see the Little League World Champs from Waipio. The 12 and 13 year olds won the title by defeating Mexico a few weeks ago.
People are also here to see Olympians. Volleyball player Robyn Ah-Mow Santos is in the parade with her silver medal and Natasha Kai of the U.S. women's soccer team has her Olympic gold.
There are athletes from previous Olympics in the parade and after the parade, there will be a special version of Sunset on the Beach, complete with movie and lots of food. |
