The last constitutional convention was in 1978. We saw the creation of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the establishment of state term limits, just to name a couple of important developments. After 30 years, do we need another con con? Bob Williams, an expert in state constitutional studies from Rutgers University, is here to tell us more.
A Primer on ConCon Please join us for a free seminar on the history and context for the vote on a ConCon State Constitutional Revision By Convention in Hawaii? Robert F. Williams, Associate Director of the Center for State Constitutional Studies and Distinguished Professor of Law, Rutgers University-Camden, New Jersey Professor Williams will discuss, in an historic and national context, the nature of state constitutions, their evolution as unique constitutional and political documents, and the various mechanisms of amendment and revision. The current situation surrounding Hawaii's state constitution, as well as the specific methods of amendment and revision it contains, will be discussed in light of a number of lessons that can be drawn from the state constitutional experience of other states.
