
| 6 More Hawaii Schools Make 'Adequate' Progress |

Hawaii's State Department of Education says six schools with successful appeals met Adequate Yearly Progress, raising the final total to 119 out of 283, or 42%. Since the preliminary AYP results were announced on July 17, the following schools' AYP status has changed from "not met" to "met:" Hanalei Elementary, Pearl Harbor Kai Elementary, Kalani High, and Waialua Elementary. Both Kualapuu Elementary (charter) and Waimanalo Elementary & Intermediate also made AYP and exited sanctions entirely. The final No Child Left Behind status for School Year 2008-09 finds 158 schools in "Good Standing" (56%), 22 in "School Improvement" (8%), 8 in "Corrective Action" (3%), 17 in "Planning for Restructuring" (6%), and 78 in "Restructuring" (27%). |
