The court ruled earlier this month that Stop Rail Now did not have enough signatures to do so. The group appealed the decision. But it is concerned the appeal will still be in limbo by the time ballots go to the printer, possibly as early as next week. If Stop Rail Now's question doesn't make it, the City Council has its own version that will go to voters. However, the group says it's not as clear and could be confusing. "This is all tied up on the transit authority, a steel on steel rail," said Stop Rail Now's attorney Earle Partington. "We are just asking for a straight up or down vote on rail. What the city council passed is nothing close to that." Even if they miss the deadline, Stop Rail Now says it will carry out the appeal process. That's so a court can clarify how many signatures are needed to get an issue in front of voters. |
