Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will be in a runoff against challenger Ann Kobayashi. Hannemann received only 80,260 votes with only 49.39 percent while Kobayashi received 49,730 votes with 30.17 percent. A candidate needed 50 percent plus one vote to win outright and not have to campaign for the primary. Panos Prevedouros received 28,782 votes with 17.71 percent. Note that the percentages used for this calculation are of the votes cast for a candidate, meaning blank, over and spoiled votes do not count.
