The latest mapping on the U.S. drought monitor marks the areas that are the driest in red. Starting on the Big Island, the northwestern side of the island, east Oahu, all of central Maui and west Wolokai. That's almost 10 percent of the state. A third of Hawaii falls under the title of severe drought, marked in orange. There are water restrictions across the board. Mandatory cutbacks in Molokai, windward Oahu and Big Island. Even more voluntary water restrictions all over the state. The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture has already designated all counties as natural disaster areas because of the damage caused by the dry weather. |
